High winds, heavy rains, and oceans of mud met competitors at the Fair Hill International CCI Three-Star Event in Maryland, but top riders put in bold performances to finish in the ribbons. Karen O'Connor riding Mandiba claimed second place in the event and was named Leading Lady Rider to earn the Beale Wright Morris trophy. O'Connor also finished in fifth place with Allstar in the Two-Star division. Phillip Dutton rode Kheops du Quesnay to fourth place in the Three-Star after dropping two rails in the final phase of the event. O'Connor and Dutton are sponsored by Kentucky Equine Research and its Team Member Pennfield Feeds.

Equinews 12, 4 Answers Common Feed Management Questions
What common factor unites performance horses, retired horses, driving horses in the U.S., racehorses in Europe, and sport horses in South America? To maintain health and stay in good shape, they all require top-notch nutrition! The articles in Equinews, Volume 12, Issue 4 explain the similarities and differences of feeding a variety of horses.
International combined driving competitor Chester Weber uses feeds from KER Team Member Pennfield Feeds, and a feature article explains why this is a good choice for his four equine athletes. The owner of retired Saddlebred geldings had her nutrition questions answered by Team Member Hallway Feeds, and her horses are in good health in spite of age and metabolic conditions. Team Member Fitmin in the Czech Republic feeds the elite racehorse Age of Japa, while new Team Member Integral Agroindustrial works with KER to make its feed products the best in Brazil.
Other articles in this issue introduce KER's latest publication, the hard-cover volume Advances in Equine Nutrition IV, and detail the uses of balancer pellets, a perfect solution to many feeding questions. Finally, Equinews Q and A explains how to choose a winter feed for lightly worked school horses.

KER-Designed Supplements Part of Racing Filly's Management Plan
Red Desire claimed victory out of a close finish in the Grade 1 Shuka Sho, the last race in the Japanese fillies' Triple Crown. Red Desire finished in second place in the Oka Sho and Yushan Himba races, the first two contests in the series. The filly is trained by Mikio Matsunaga, who uses Restore and Neigh-Lox to keep the horses in his stable in top condition. Restore was designed to replace the electrolytes lost in sweat when horses perform strenuous exercise. Neigh-Lox buffers gastric acid to help prevent the stomach discomfort that is often linked to management of horses in race training.
Champion Mare Zenyatta Wins on Hallway Feeds
Five-year-old race mare Zenyatta made it fourteen victories in fourteen starts when she won the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic against a strong field of males. Zenyatta, the first female to win the Classic, came from last place to first in a stretch run that left no doubt that she was the best horse in the field. The mare is trained by John Shirreffs, who chose products manufactured by Kentucky Equine Research Team Member Hallway Feeds to fuel his champion's performance.
