Mill Park Thoroughbred Stud has been extremely successful at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling sales held earlier this year. The South Australian stud farm presented just five yearlings, who were all sold at an average of $267,000.

The star for Mill Park at $360,000 was a Bernardini (USA) colt from Rock on Madonna that was bought by the Hong Kong Jockey Club.

Mill Park Thoroughbreds are fed the Kentucky Equine Research (KER) products All Phase and Equi-Jewel to ensure optimum growth and development. The farm also uses Cool Command from KER Team Member Barastoc during yearling preparation.

The 2011 Hunter Thoroughbred Breeders Association Annual Awards were held May 9 at Scone Racecourse. Champion First-Season Sire, sponsored by Kentucky Equine Research (KER) and Barastoc, went to Darley's Nadeem.

Peter Huntington of KER and Brendan Hunt of Barastoc presented the award, Darley's third of the night, to Alastair Pulford.

Barastoc and KER have had a long association with Nadeem. The companies fed his sire, Redoutes Choice, at Arrowfield Stud, and fed Nadeem since he was sold as a yearling to Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum. After a successful racing career, Nadeem now has seven winners from 18 runners and looks to have a bright future as a sire.

Thoroughbred sprinter Equiano will join the 2011 stallion lineup at Swettenham Stud, a 900-acre facility just north of Melbourne, Australia, that uses products from Kentucky Equine Research (KER).

Equiano twice won the Group 1 King's Stand Stakes (1000m). The proven son of Acclamation won as a three-year-old  against older horses, and then again as a five-year-old, defeating the world's best sprinters. Swettenham's defining moment in committing to this stallion was his narrow loss to Starspangledbanner in 2010's July Cup, over 1200m of the testing and undulating Newmarket course.

"I have been constantly analyzing European sprinters, seeking those tested and proved on the Royal Ascot and Newmarket tracks," said Adam Sangster, owner of Swettenham Stud. "Equiano reminds me so much of Oasis Dream, who we nearly secured for the Southern Hemisphere. He has the physical type and the sprinting blood to excite any breeder."

All of Swettenham Stud's young horses are raised on KER All-Phase to ensure optimum health and development.

Champion Thoroughbred stallion Hussonet (Mr. Prospector--Sacahusita by Raja Baba) will be relocated from Arrowfield to South Australia's Lindsay Park Stud in 2011.

Arrowfield and Lindsay Park Stud have negotiated a deal that will see the record-breaking sire spend the remainder of his career at the famous Barossa Valley stud.

"Standing a champion stallion is a privilege that we will not take for granted and I am confident that breeders will not take it for granted either. This is a real coup," said Sam Hayes, managing director of Lindsay Park Stud.

The sire of more Group One winners (28) than any other active stallion in Australia today, Hussonet has produced 75 individual stakes winners with progeny earnings over $37 million worldwide.

Lindsey Park Thoroughbreds are fed Barastoc and KER products to ensure optimum health, development, and breeding success.

Hussonet is the world's leading active son of Mr. Prospector at stud and will stand at Lindsay Park Stud in 2011 alongside Good Journey, Reaan, Barely a Moment, De Beers, and fellow newcomer Shrewd Rhythm.

The recent Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in Melbourne was a successful sale for many breeders who use feed and supplements formulated by Kentucky Equine Research (KER).

All key indicators were up on results from a year ago, with this year's Session 1 breaking through the $30-million barrier for only the second time in the sale's history, bettering the $28.8 million last year and well up on the $23.3 million figure from 2009. The average of $71,680 and the median of $57,500 were up from previous years, and the clearance rate was an impressive 83%. The median reflects the overall strength of the sale. To see it better last year's mark is a great result, particularly as other sales this year have been down on those indicators.

The equal top-priced lot was $340,000 given for Burnewang North Pastoral's Fastnet Rock colt from the Group 2-winning Spinning World mare Coupe. This well-grown colt was reared on the great pastures at Burnewang North and the KER supplements All Phase pellet and Equi-Jewel. His growth was monitored using the innovative Gro-Trac growth-tracking software from KER.

This high-priced lot capped an outstanding sale for Coolmore Stud's Fastnet Rock, whose yearlings made up six of the top nine lots. Fastnet Rock was clearly the leading sire, averaging $172, 647. Nine of the top ten leading sires by average were residents of farms that are clients of KER, and the leading vendor in terms of gross receipts was another Hunter Valley client, Bellerive Stud, which sold yearlings valued at over $2.1 million.

In the Premier 2 session the top-priced Snitzel -Bee and Bee colt was sold by Woodside Park Stud for $150,000 after being reared and prepped on KER Low GI Cube. Woodside Park was also the leading vendor by averages. The average price and median for the Premier 2 section of the sale was up 15% on 2010, and the top stallion was Churchill Downs, who resides on Blue Gum Farm at Euroa.

Finally, there was a special KER connection in 2011, with sales manager Rod Mitchell's new Merton Creek Thoroughbreds preparing its first three yearlings, which averaged $49,000, making them the second leading vendor by average.

Congratulations to these and all other KER clients with yearlings at the sale.

Hallway Feeds customers Winstar Farm and Claiborne Farm placed well in the list of top breeders by total purse earnings for 2010. Winstar claimed fifth place with $5,390,660 in earnings from 705 starts. Winstar's horses finished first, second, or third in 326 of those starts. Claiborne was in sixth place on the list with $4,606,322 in earnings from 187 starts in which the farm's horses finished first, second, or third 87 times. Hallway Feeds is a Team Member of Kentucky Equine Research.

Magali Farms Featured

December 8, 2010

Magali Farms in Santa Ynez, California was featured in the November 2010 issue of California Thoroughbred. The farm, owned by Rich and Gaby Sulpizio, is a client of Associated Feed, a Kentucky Equine Research Team Member. Encompassing 238 acres of land, Magali stands eight Thoroughbred stallions including Lit de Justice and Ten Most Wanted. With visiting mares and horses in early training, there are usually around 300 horses on the property. Magali Farms was honored as the 2008 Thoroughbred Owners and breeders Association State Breeder of the Year for California.

Saracen Horse Feeds has done it again! The only Kentucky Equine Research (KER) Team Member in England fed the sales-topping yearling at this year's St. Leger Yearling Sale in Doncaster. The filly was owned and sale-prepped by Laundry Cottage Stud and consigned to the sale by Furnace Mill Stud; both farms are clients of Saracen. The filly sold for £120,000, a sales price that was matched by two colts but not exceeded by any other consignment.

Another point of interest: Saracen-fed horses had a significantly better average when compared with the average price achieved by the yearlings fed by other feed manufacturers in the United Kingdom.

To learn more about Saracen, check out the latest issue of Equinews, the official quarterly publication of KER. An article titled "Saracen Horse Feeds at the Sales" tracts the company's success in feeding outstanding sale horses over the last decade.

At the recent Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney, top price of $1.87 million was paid for a Redoute's Choice-Regrowth colt bred by Segenhoe Stud. The colt was reared on KER Team Member Barastoc (Ridley Agriproducts) feeds and KER supplements.

The second-highest price at the sale, and top price for a filly, was $1.3 million for a Zabeel-Gin Player yearling offered by Rich Hill Stud from Matamata in New Zealand. Rich Hill depends on products from Team Member NRM Feeds to guarantee proper growth in its young horses.

Congratulations to KER clients Coolmore Stud, top vendor by aggregate at the sale, and to Rich Hill Stud who topped the averages.
