The recent Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in Melbourne was a successful sale for many breeders who use feed and supplements formulated by Kentucky Equine Research (KER).
All key indicators were up on results from a year ago, with this year's Session 1 breaking through the $30-million barrier for only the second time in the sale's history, bettering the $28.8 million last year and well up on the $23.3 million figure from 2009. The average of $71,680 and the median of $57,500 were up from previous years, and the clearance rate was an impressive 83%. The median reflects the overall strength of the sale. To see it better last year's mark is a great result, particularly as other sales this year have been down on those indicators.
Colt prepped by Merton Creek Thoroughbreds (Dubawi-Mi Senorita).
The equal top-priced lot was $340,000 given for Burnewang North Pastoral's Fastnet Rock colt from the Group 2-winning Spinning World mare Coupe. This well-grown colt was reared on the great pastures at Burnewang North and the KER supplements All Phase pellet and Equi-Jewel. His growth was monitored using the innovative Gro-Trac growth-tracking software from KER.
This high-priced lot capped an outstanding sale for Coolmore Stud's Fastnet Rock, whose yearlings made up six of the top nine lots. Fastnet Rock was clearly the leading sire, averaging $172, 647. Nine of the top ten leading sires by average were residents of farms that are clients of KER, and the leading vendor in terms of gross receipts was another Hunter Valley client, Bellerive Stud, which sold yearlings valued at over $2.1 million.
In the Premier 2 session the top-priced Snitzel -Bee and Bee colt was sold by Woodside Park Stud for $150,000 after being reared and prepped on KER Low GI Cube. Woodside Park was also the leading vendor by averages. The average price and median for the Premier 2 section of the sale was up 15% on 2010, and the top stallion was Churchill Downs, who resides on Blue Gum Farm at Euroa.
Finally, there was a special KER connection in 2011, with sales manager Rod Mitchell's new Merton Creek Thoroughbreds preparing its first three yearlings, which averaged $49,000, making them the second leading vendor by average.
Congratulations to these and all other KER clients with yearlings at the sale.
