A horse that jumps competitively needs both the physical ability and a suitable temperament to perform under challenging conditions.

Show jumper Christine McCrea rode her horse Romantovich Take One to an individual gold medal and also collected a team gold medal at the Pan American Games held in October of 2011. The show jumping team's first-place finish at the Guadalajara, Mexico, venue clinched Olympic Games qualification for the United States show jumpers.

McCrea trusts Pennfield Equine Feed Technologies, a Kentucky Equine Research (KER) Team Member, to provide the right feed products to keep Romantovich Take One at the top of his game. Formulated by the equine nutrition experts at KER and manufactured by Pennfield, feeds like Fibregized Omega are designed to meet the needs of horses that are intensely trained. Fibregized Omega is formulated to be a calm source of energy. Because it derives the majority of its digestible energy content from fermentable fiber and fat sources, it gives a horse long-term, sustainable energy sources that do not cause rapid changes in blood sugar.

In the discipline of eventing, Buck Davidson and his mount Absolute Liberty also captured two medals for the United States, a gold in the team competition and a bronze for his individual efforts, at the Pan American Games. The U.S. eventing team accomplished a record by having all five riders finish on their dressage scores, a feat that has never been done in a team eventing championship.

Like McCrea, Davidson is sponsored byPennfield Equine Feed Technologies. He has chosen Fibregized Omega and EnduroEvent Ener-G, another product designed for high-performance horses, to keep his mounts fueled throughout their training and competition efforts.

The best eventing and show jumping riders in Australia will compete at the inaugural equestrian grand final jumping and exhibition eventing, held as part of Equitana.

The field of 18 includes the cream-of-the-crop, including international star and KER-sponsored rider Chris Chugg, who will be riding Diamond B Vigo, a daughter of his 2010 World Equestrian Games mount Vivant.

In the exhibition eventing, the field of 15 will boast many of Australia's leading riders, including KER and Barastoc sponsored rider, Megan Jones.

Traditionally the exciting sport of eventing requires wide-open spaces. However, exhibition eventing has been developed to capture the spirit and skill of eventing in a more confined area, providing the opportunity for fans to get close to this adrenaline-packed sport.

The equestrian grand final jumping will be held from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. Friday, 11 November, in the spectacular 5,000-seat indoor Dome Arena at Sydney Showground.

The exhibition eventing final will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, 13 November, in the main arena at Sydney Showground.

Hallway Feeds, a Kentucky Equine Research Team Member, was represented in the winner's circle at two very different events last weekend.

Harness trainer Noel Daley, a longtime customer of Hallway Feeds, captured first place in the prestigious Hambletonian with Broad Bahn. Daley uses Hallway Feeds' Race 13 exclusively in his stable.

A new customer, show jumper Michael Morrissey won the $50,000 Rood & Riddle Grand Prix aboard Vorst. Morrissey's horses are on Compete 10/10 and Fibrenergy, a new product designed specifically for the sport horse market.

Over the past two decades KER has collaborated with Hallway to design feeds that have raised and fueled many of the legends of Thoroughbred racing. Bucks Bunny is a 17-year-old with a 14-year show record with the Hamoods. By a Thoroughbred stallion and out of a Welsh-cross mare, Bucks Bunny has been owned by the Hamoods since he was a weanling. He has won numerous Grand Prix competitions around Australia this year, mostly under the guidance of Hamood's mother, Paula. His other successes include two Australian speed championships and runner-up in the Australian Junior Championship with Hamood.

"We purchased Nero in mid 2007 from Victoria as a Young Rider horse that has just kept on improving and has now taken me to Grand Prix and World Cup level," Hamood said. "Nero is rising 13 years of age and has a lot of little quirks, and can be quite a nervous horse!"

Both horses receive Synovate HA, a liquid hyaluronic acid supplement for the support of healthy joint function in horses, among other products from Kentucky Equine Research (KER).

The Hamoods are sponsored by KER Team Member Barastoc and utilize many products in the KERx range, which they find to be of great benefit to their competition horses.

The Hamoods also bought and trained all of the horses used in the 2010 Youth Olympics in Singapore, working closely with KER and Barastoc to prepare the horses on Barastoc feeds, EquiShure, Neigh-Lox, Restore, and Perform. Read more: "KER Team Member Feeds Youth Olympic Horses."

Their Glen Haven Park facility is located in Queensland.

Jonathan McCrea, a show jumper sponsored by Kentucky Equine Research Team Member Pennfield Equine Feed Technologies, won the $75,000 Mirror Lake Inn Grand Prix of Lake Placid.

McCrea and Colorado were among five combinations to make the jump-off out of the field of 24.
Pennfield produces KER-formulated feeds especially designed to meet the requirements of world-class equine athletes.

McCrea uses Pennfield products, including Fibregized Omega, Phase II Broodmare and Yearling's Choice, and Phase V Senior's Choice. Read more about McCrea and Pennfield.

The best in equestrian sport recently gathered at the Equestrian Australia 2010 Sport Achievement Awards Night, held at Olympic Park, New South Wales.

The gala evening attracted 300 guests to recognise the highest achievers in equestrian sport in 2010. Equestrian Australia also announced its inaugural Hall of Fame inductees. These included equestrian heroes from throughout the decades since the Equestrian Australia's (formerly Equestrian Federation of Australia) beginnings in the 1950s. Equestrian Australia also launched its London Olympic campaign, "Operation Greenwich Gold."

Kentucky Equine Research (KER) would like to congratulate its long-time supporters who were recognised at the awards evening:

Administrator of the Year: Barb Timms
Barb was recognised for her passion and commitment to the sport of endurance at both a regional and international level. Barb holds the role of manager of the Australian Endurance Squad and combines her duties as team manager whilst expanding youth development opportunities and the training and development for officials. KER has worked with Barb for many years, providing nutrition education opportunities to squad members, and product and advice in the nutritional management of squad horses.

International Horse of the Year: Vivant (ridden by Chris Chugg)
Vivant was imported by Chris Chugg from Belgium as a young horse and has made an indelible mark on the Australian and international jumping scenes. Chris began Vivant's jumping career in early 2003, culminating in representing Australia at the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky 2010 before he was sold to Europe in January of 2011. Vivant has been fed KER supplements since the very beginning, including supplements such as: KERx EquiShure, KERx EO•3, Glucos-A-Flex, Preserve, and Hemabuild. KER had also arranged feed for Vivant from KER brand alliance partner feed manufacturers throughout his extremely successful 2009 and 2010 European seasons. Congratulations to Chris Chugg on producing such an incredible young stallion.

Susie Hutchinson, a California-based show jumper sponsored by Kentucky Equine Research (KER) Team Member Pennfield Equine Feed Technologies, won the $25,000 Surfside Grand Prix at the Del Mar National Horse Show May 5 aboard Cantano.

Hutchinson and Cantano went on to place 11th in the $100,000 Grand Prix of Del Mar and also won the Grand Prix of Del Mar Style Award.

Hutchinson is a Pennfield Promise Partner. Cantano is powered by Fibergized Omega, a feed formulated by KER to be a calm source of energy. It derives the majority of its digestible energy content from fermentable fiber and fat sources; these are long-term, sustainable energy sources that do not cause rapid changes in blood sugar.

When horsemen purchase a feed that has been scientifically formulated by the nutritionists at KER and produced at a KER Team Member's manufacturing facility, they can expect the best: the highest quality vitamin and mineral packages, the choicest ingredients, and the most stringent quality-control measures.

KER-supported rider Brook Dobbin has made a great start to his international partnership with the young showjumping sensation Belcam Advisor.

Following their convincing win in the Pacific League of the FEI World Cup Jumping they were selected to represent Australia at the New Zealand Horse of the Year Show. This was the pair's international debut against a world-class field. They narrowly missed out on winning the prestigious Grand Prix Silver Fern Stakes, coming second to Katie McVean on Daffodil.

Dobbin and Advisor also represented Australia on the International Trans Tasman Test team. Alongside George Sanna, Julia Hargreaves, and Cathy Graham, they edged out New Zealand to take home the prize.

"I am just thrilled with the whole experience and how the horse handled everything that was presented to him, from his first flight to competing against some of the Southern Hemisphere's top horses," said Dobbin. "Due to quarantine restrictions we weren't able to bring Advisor's usual KER feed with him, and we'd like to thank NRM for its outstanding support in arranging all the feed for Advisor throughout his stay. The company's assistance and support were invaluable, allowing Advisor to transition well from KER feeds to NRM and back again."

Advisor took no lower than second place during his entire stay, an excellent showing for the 11-year-old's first trip off Australian shores. Brook has high hopes for the athletic grey gelding, including making the Australian team for the 2012 London Olympics.
