Monitoring height and weight of foals and young horses allows managers to track growth rates. Foals growing too fast are at risk of developing skeletal problems by overloading the joints and growth plates. Likewise, periods of slow growth may result in young horses that do not sell or perform to their potential. In addition, it is important to know the correct weight of a young horse so that medications, dewormers, and feeds can be provided in the correct amounts.
